Activities - Drama/Theater Arts

Theater arts, or drama, is a class that has become a tradition at Central High School. School plays have been a part of CHS for over 20 years. Mrs. Leigh Ann Wilks is the current director and teacher of the school's theater arts class.

Students in Mrs. Wilks' acting class learn how to memorize lines, work in front of crowds, and develop acting skills. The class counts as a fine arts credit. Until the 2018-2019 school year, juniors and seniors were the primary participants in theater class. Beginning in 2018, Theater I will be offered for all grade levels during the fall semester. Theater I students will learn the basics and perform skits and short productions for small groups of students. Theater II will be offered during the spring semester and will be open to juniors and seniors. Theater II students will participate in skits as well as a full length production.

Theater I and Theater II classes regularly travel to area elementary and middle schools to perform for the younger students. The high school students always enjoy interacting with the younger audiences and gain valuable experience on the effort required to "take a show on the road."

Picture slide shows of several of the drama performances are available below. Beginning in 2006, the After-School Video Production class began filming each of the Drama plays. Short videoclips of the most recent plays are also available below.
