Upward Bound
Our mission is to provide fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. The program provides opportunities for participants to succeed in their precollege pursuits. Upward Bound serves high school students from low-income families; high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor's degree; and low-income, first-generation military veterans who are preparing to enter postsecondary education. The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in graduate institutions of postsecondary education.
We provide services in the following areas: tutoring and academic instruction in Mathematics, Science, English, Foreign Language, ACT Prep, financial literacy, cultural exposure, non-cognitive skills, work-study opportunities, community service, and much more.
My official title is Upward Bound Advisor and a little about me is I am a Wartburg Central High Alumni and an Upward Bound Alumni. I participated in this exact program when I was a student at WCHS and loved everything about it, but especially the Summer Program component. Upward Bound gave me the skills and confidence to succeed in college and I obtained my Associate's from Roane State Community College and my Bachelor's from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
